A CEM with four decades of electronics experience
Soumac are a CEM, founded in 1992, by Directors Mike Souter and Tony Mack, when the Ferguson factory in which they both worked closed its doors. With 20 years experience as electronic engineers (Mike specialising in designing hardware and writing software for automatic test equipment and Tony designing and building test equipment), they supported local businesses from Tony’s garage. With their full electronics test and repair service, they quickly expanded to a fully national operation and new premises.
Mike’s vision to diversify the business, saw the introduction of Director Steve Woods in 2003. A well-qualified manufacturing expert, Steve began his career as a quality engineer, moving to quality management and then manufacturing, responsible for production. Steve set up our full-assembly facility in 2004, attaining ISO9001 in the same year.
Steve’s experience and in-depth knowledge of PCB assembly, has resulted in rapid company growth and the need for expansion, necessitating two moves in ten years. In 2012 we moved our production facility to a 8,159 sq/ft premises in Kiln Rd, Portsmouth.
Mike is still very hands on and gets involved in some of the engineering challenges set by our demanding customers but as Managing Director, he predominantly oversees the operational performance of the company and health and safety. Steve has multiple hats, including technical, quality and buying and Tony runs our test and repair department.
The management team is complemented by Chris Collins, who joined the company in 2004. Chris has 24 years experience in PCB assembly, having started as a production operator, becoming a team leader and after demonstrating outstanding performance, becoming Production Manager. Chris is responsible for the assembly of all of our printed circuit boards and his target is to ensure customer orders are built to the highest quality and delivered on time.
