PCB Assembly Specialists Soumac Support Queen Alexandra Hospital’s £3 million Rocky Appeal

Soumac Managing Director, Mike Souter, demonstrated the company’s support for a very worthy local cause by donating a £150 Best Western voucher to assist fundraising for Portsmouth’s Queen Alexandra Hospital’s Rocky Appeal.

The Rocky Appeal’s Professor Amjad Parvaiz received the donation on behalf of the trust and expressed his gratitude to Soumac for their support and help in raising awareness for the appeal.

True to our word, following no one coming forward with the winning Golden Ticket from February’s Southern Manufacturing Show, we have donated it to a cause that benefits the local Portsmouth community and beyond.

For those of you that don’t know, the Rocky Appeal is an incredibly worthwhile local cause, set up by Portsmouth Hospital NHS Trust, with the objective of raising £3 million to fund the purchase of the ‘Da Vinci’ Robot in a state-of-the-art futuristic digital keyhole operating theatre.

Fundraising has already enabled the creation of 2 of these ‘first-of-their-kind in the UK’ facilities and thousands of patients in Portsmouth have already benefited from keyhole surgery.

The new technology allows many operations that would previously have been done with a large cut through the skin, now being performed through small 1/2 inch keyholes or through natural orifices like the mouth or urethra.

The result is a quicker recovery, as well as less pain and infection.  Typical operations taking place using the new technology include: gallstones, kidney stones, hernia, appendicitis, heartburn, bowel tumours and bleeding, gynaecology and joint problems.

Not only does the patient benefit but because many planned procedures can now be done safely as day-cases, it is an extremely cost-effective use of NHS resources.
