As the Spring sun finally arrives and the Winter storms depart, the Soumac team have only just recovered from another great, but somewhat eventful, Southern Manufacturing Show last month.
There was little hint of what was to come when we arrived in Farnborough on a glorious sunny day to set up the stand on the Tuesday before the show. On the morning of the show, storms had arrived with a vengeance. Unperturbed, we arrived at the FIVE venue in Farnborough all prepared for our 7th consecutive show and what promised to be the biggest yet. Little did we know that by lunchtime we would all be sent home, as the venue took a battering from the rain and wind, resulting in the flooding of stands and the unnerving swaying of the venue structure itself.
Despite this, the venue was open again for the second day of the show and the previous day’s weather had clearly not put visitors off, as we enjoyed record footfalls to the stand.
We would like to thank everyone that took the time to speak to us. It was particularly nice to meet so many businesses intent on growing in 2014, reinforcing the recent positive economic forecasts for the UK manufacturing sector.
This year, the Soumac stand had a new addition, as Jonathan Griffiths, a University of Southampton student and inaugural winner of the Soumac Award, was given the opportunity as part of his prize, to showcase his University project – an atmospheric imaging and data collection device, on the stand to the exhibition visitors.
